Rid yourself of Photoshop’s ‘copy’ syndrome.

I know you hate it. We all hate it. The way Photoshop adds the word ‘copy’’ and then an incremental number when you duplicate Layers. It's very aggravating isn't it?

Well - Adobe has answered the call, in a little known preference, finally.

Here's what you do.

In the Layers panel in the little menu at the top right of that panel you choose Panel Options.

There you will find a little checkbox with the glorious text ‘Add “copy” to Copied Layers and Groups.’

This preference is only part of CS5 - that alone, might be worth the upgrade price for some people.
